We all know that eating fast food is most likely not the healthiest way to go. Now according to new research, it was determined that body/mass index (a ratio of weight to height commonly used to determine if a person is over or under weight) increased in direct proportion to the number of fast food meals they consumed each week. On occasion, fast food can be a necessary convenience for some of us...but, let's do our best to be mindful and proactive to make the best and healthiest choices we can!
The research showed that weight gain was substantial enough that it could result in a non-diabetic individual becoming diabetic just from eating fast food on occasion. Here's another idea. Instead of succumbing to the drive-thru demons, be prepared for those times when you don't have time to actually sit down for a meal. Pack some energy bars or a nutritional beverage. Fill a miniature cooler with some baby carrots, a little bit of hummus, string cheese, nut butter and whole grain crackers. Skip the soda and opt for a sparkling water. Also read labels. Some of the new so-called nutritional drinks are loaded with sugar and/or artificial colors and flavorings. Keep your blood sugar balanced by snacking at least every few hours and you'll be able to pass right on by those golden arches.
